Guido Nasi was paralysed after a horror attack

HE was left paralysed, partially sighted, unable to feed himself and confined to a life requiring round-the-clock care when he was mindlessly struck over the head with a bottle in Dublin 15 years ago.

But brave Italian Guido Nasi has said he’s still determined to find a miracle cure for his physical disabilities.

Despite his debilitating condition and immobility, wheelchair-bound Guido, who turned 32 last weekend, has refused to give up on his dream of making a full recovery.

Bernadette Kelly, a victim support volunteer who is close friends with the Nasi family, said Guido still spends lengthy periods every day trawling the internet at the Turin home he shares with his mother, looking for medical solutions.

She said: “Guido finds it very hard to accept that he’s not going to get better and spends a lot of time looking for answers on the internet.

“He’s got to keep going for his own sake and it gives him hope, but unfortunately the reality is it’s highly unlikely he’ll ever get better physically.”

Guido suffered irreversible injuries on his first-ever trip to Ireland in 1999, when the then carefree 17-year-old was the victim of a near-fatal assault in Fairview Park, Dublin.

In 2001 James Osbourne (pictured above), then aged 31, from East Wall, Dublin, was jailed for eight-and-a-half years over the attack. Osbourne was released in May 2008.

Since the savage attack his devoted mother Simonetta (72), who lives alone with her son, has looked after him 24/7.

Dubliner Bernadette said the Nasis received a much-needed lift last Saturday on Guido’s birthday.

She said: “Simonetta told me that Guido received a load of lovely cards and letters from Ireland. It really means the world to them.”
